The National Association of Realtors (NAR), whose members are known as Realtors, is North America's largest trade association representing over 1.2 million members including NAR's institutes, societies, and councils, involved in all aspects of the residential and commercial real estate industries. |

NAR also functions as a Self Regulatory Organization for real estate brokerage and was founded in 1908 as the National Association of Real Estate Exchanges, the founding group being located in Chicago, Illinois. |

NAR's membership is composed of residential and commercial real estate brokers, real estate sales people, immovable property managers, appraisers, counselors, and others engaged in all aspects of the real estate (immovable property) industry. |

The NAR wields substantial power as a lobbying organization on behalf of agents and brokers; in 2005, NAR had the largest Political Action Committee in the United States. According to the Center for Responsive Politics, the Association is the United States' third-largest donor to political campaigns, having given since 1990 more than US$30 million. |

NAR-INDIA - The Indian Arm for NAR USA |
| |
| |
NAR-INDIA has been fashioned not only as a single national level umbrella organisation representing the interests of thousands of realtors/brokers operating all over the country, but also an organization which aims to elevate the standards of practice of the real estate brokerage business to a global level where ethics, transparency, accountability, rule of law and good governance prevail. |
| |
| |
NAR India is already in agreement with the International Real Property Foundation (IRPF), Chicago, USA for technical assistance, along with the US AID. NAR-INDIA also has an alliance with National Association of Realtors (NAR), USA as well as the International Consortium of Real Estate Associations (ICREA), USA. |
| |
As the national and sub national level, NAR-INDIA proposes to establish relationships with the Central Government, particularly the Ministry of Urban Development, Government of India. The other ministries at the central level would be the Ministry of Consumer Affairs and the Ministry of Commerce. |
